Black Heart Story.

Black Heart came from an idea originating at the beginning of the 1990.It developed musically and artistically during the posse period. It?s a group of lovers of reggae that grew in the small town of Lucca.Traveling around Jamaica and England they built a personal sound system in 1997.

The desire to be known and the desire to make known their message through reggae, pushed Black Heart to play their music as much as possible even if struggling through many problems.Black Heart tried to collaborate with other sounds so that, putting together roots and culture, could improve and enlarge in the Italian scene.

Black Heart played at Sunsplash reggae, one of the biggest reggae music festivals in Europe, at RAS, at the National Sound System meeting and many other venues.

The sound system was born in Jamaica in the sixties when, coming from the USA, established itself on the island.Enterprising characters like Prince Buster, started to go around the island with an assortment of 45s, good amplifiers, cymbals, and microphones spreading everywhere the new sounds that were enriched by the DJ?s voice and later, from other local sounds.

Since then, the sound system has became a Jamaica establishment, and over time, it acquired the characteristics that are the base development of Jamaican music. Not only do the sounds of the bass get pumped at high decibels, but also while the DJ improvises rhymes on the 45?s b-side that includes the piece?s instrumental version.

All the musical?s styles that were born in Jamaica (ska, rock steady, and reggae) have been influenced by the sound system.Plus,Jamaican music is made to be played by DJs more than during live concert (too expensive for the people that live in the Kingston ghetto). The competition between sound systems to gain audiences was ruthless and the sessions ended in brawls. The names of the first sound system owner became legend: Duke Reid,Coxone, and King Tubby.Even their successors were a myth that went over the island borders: Stone Love,Killamanjaro, and Mega Force. Each are well-known by all lovers of black music. The migration to England and the USA contributed to the spreading of the sound system?s music style all over the world. It was said that Jamaican Clive Campbell (in Kool Herc art),migrated to New York in 1960,imported the custom way to rhyme on the instrumental side, starting the rap style.

Italy started to talk about the sound system halfway through the eighties, but none of the pubs were fit for the Jamaican sound. The equipment used was the same for normal auditions, but the words that DJs used were felt more than anything else that was around at the time.In our country, the sound system meant a DJ that played reggae with the help of an MC bringing with him only his box of records. At the beginning of 1990,and with the explosion of the ?Phenomenon posse?,started a spread of a new sensation for the Jamaican sound. It formed a passionate group of people, not a large one,but were open to devote themselves to enjoy their favorite exhibition. In this atmosphere, the Roman posse decided to build a system that was equal to the occasion.Their example has been followed by many others all around the peninsula. Now, in many parts of Italy,it?s possible to hear the bass making walls tremble like in the best dancehalls of England or Jamaica. It?s also possible to participate in the annual meeting of our sound system:RAS(RealAuthenticSound).
